Difficulty as always is to stand back from one of my photographs and to be sure that it holds together.
This a postcard of sorts, but a street photography postcard; actually, not sure it works as a postcard either because in my view it exists better in a bigger size.
I don’t particularly like the Halles but I do land there now and again…
I often see photography of streets where the people captured are there but not, I suspect, as the author of the photograph would have liked them to be; a bit like those silhouettes or sketchy figures that architects add to some of their drawings to give a sense of scale but who have no personality and do not to actually reveal their feelings or purpose.
Why this photograph does matter to me is the combination of the feeling of space, the eerie sky ,the silhouettes of people and the young person sitting on the hand of the statue looking at it all-as I was looking at it all. So maybe in the end, it isn’t so much about a corner of Paris but a self portrait of sorts?
