Dear Followers and followed : I can’t cope with meeting like this any more, something’s got to give !

To all of you followers and followed alike, I must say a big thanks for the lovely journey I’ve had with this wordpress blog .It has allowed me to discover other bloggers ( mainly photographers…it is my thing ), their work, to learn from them and exchange kind words and to grow in my understanding of my own photography. What more could you want ?

The truth is that since I established a new portfolio site for my personal work with its own blog a while back  along with my new site for my wedding and portrait work , I just can’t manage to maintain all of these :something has got to give . So I’ll no longer be posting here to focus on the new site which also makes all the more sense that I’m in danger of irritating the gods of Google by having similar content on two sites (  and google lightning is always nasty  ).

So in a nutshell….In the future I’ll be posting only at my newer blog at chevaugeonphoto.com. If you like….you can subscribe to it . I’d be delighted if you did.

Some photographic blogs that really struck a cord with me:

Verve Photo

ArtBlart

GMB Akash

John Wreford Photographer ( one of my better deeds in life will have been to recommend the BBC to look up John…and they did ! : the power of little folk hey ! )

Belinda Claushuis

Iconic Photos

the future is papier mâché

pixetera

And also the well travelled Ron Scubadiver freelance journalist and Angelina Hue ( travel, books, food and more ) with both very different takes on places they visit.

Without forgetting artist of many talents Charles St-Clair and the sensitive posts about esteemed thinkers by Nanette at bloggingeinstein.wordpress.com and just plain kind people like Harbin77  (who leads a life based on his very strong faith and whose son Jeffery Harbin is an excellent photographer).

I’ve enjoyed browsing through many more, so many that I couldn’t possibly post them all….

I thought it fitting to post again the first photo to appear on this blog in February 2013, maybe not easy on the eye or making much sense to anyone: simply the shadows of a branch and leaves on a concrete wall somewhere in Tokyo in April 1990, taken almost 25 years ago. It isn’t a crowd pleaser of a photograph that’s for sure but it kind of sums me up. And If I were only allowed to keep a few photographs, this would have to be in the lot along with portraits of loved ones.

Although in a very urban setting, it brought to mind this poem …

THE BREATH OF A BUFFALO

What is Life ? It is the flash of a firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time.
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass
and loses itself in the Sunset.”
-Crowfoot….April 1890, on his deathbed

Take care each and everyone of you…thanks for your interest and for sharing your content…I hope we will keep in touch and supporting each other here or elsewhere.

Kind Regards

La Porte St-Denis mon amour.

La Porte St-Denis in Black and White

I lived on either side of the Porte St-Denis for many years and always loved the way it loomed as you made your way down the Rue du Faubourg St-Denis. You can either look at these quickly or roam more carefully to pick out details and people going about their business. A part of me feels home and at ease there. The final one was captured digitally in August 2009. As for the first set on film, my guess is late 80s ?

Brussels a photographic black and white Diptych.

Taken many years ago, edited the other day. I’m enjoying doing the occasional photographic diptych: it isn’t so much about creating a sequence that illustrates the passage of time but more about bringing photographs together that question  the assumptions we make when watching or photographing a scene.

The question here is what does the observer assume about the relationship between the man,the boy and the woman. Is there a relation ? If so what is its nature ? Why is she behind them ? The possibilities are infinite.

Leaving Holy Island En Quittant Holy Island 2008

two black and white photos of the tide coming in at Holy IslandHoly island causeway. Northumberland UK. Digital capture. Numérique. January Janvier 2008

Two black and white photographs from a series of three captured as the tide was coming in. I don’t usual stray from a classic presentation but here it feels right.

At Sea En Mer

black and white photograph of people on the deck of a ferryFerry crossing to Amsterdam from the UK. Digital. Numérique. 2012

Ok, I rarely go for a reduced tonal range but here I felt it fitted for this photo. On the other hand, I felt that the flagpole image needed something more subtle.

As for the next two images of a father and daughter, a classic treatment seemed best suited.

I enjoyed putting a gif together from the sequence of photos of this little magic moments. The last one is my favourite of the series. All these photos link back to my portfolio site chevaugeonphoto.com, page “Here and There”.

Toutes ces photos contiennent un lien vers mon site chevaugeonphoto.com, section “Here and There” (page “Ici et Là).

Farms, wind turbines, sheep and big sky : a landscape.

Hard to keep life in this very downsized for web version.

Last image that I’ve edited this year, today to be precise,a sign of a turning point towards a more documentary approach. Thanks for interacting with me throughout the year and wishing you a meaningful 2015. And thank you very much for continuing to share your work !

I hope you’re going well.

black and white photography of four boys on a street

From a 35 mm negative, digitalised using a D800 and 105 mm macro and then processed in LR and PS .D’après un négatif 35 mm, numérisé avec un D800 et un 105mm macro puis édité dans LR et PS

Although taken 30 years ago, I remember these boys well, even their names.

black and white photograph of the Place de la Bastille

From a 35 mm negative. Place de la Bastille or the Bastoche as we call it in slang.

Taken on a cold winter morning. It’s an image that I prefer to sanitised postcardy views, it says Paris to me.
